Mystery Curassier...

A while back I aquired a Job lot of assorted 30mm figures- Stadden AWI mostly but a couple of odd WIILIES and this chap.

I've no idea what make he is. Thats he's of a certain age is pretty certain. The Sword is a pin and the scabbard a ppiece of tin sheet.  He is a three part model Horse Saddle cloth and rider- with the Carbine and picket pole making a 4 th small part..
The Horse remainds me of Gammage or Rose but I didn't think Gammage at least did any 30mm or Rose any SYW. The base is too thicj for a Stadden. He arrived painted but I did re-touch and re-base him. Maybe he's the start of a retro SYW project....

    1. I have some minot Napoleonics- stature is right but the horse is too good - still its a good shout as I hadn't considered him- didn't know he did any SYW.

  2. I've not come across Minot SYW either - which doesn't mean he didn't do them of course (after all his AWI for Spencer Smith are often overlooked). He did do 1806 Prussians....

If you'd said it was a 25mm then i'd have suggested the short lived GHQ multi-part figures....

I've been no help whatsoever, but i'm intrigued, so i hope you identify him. Cheers.

    1. DC - He's Stadden sized. I remeber the GHQ fis- just as being decidedly fiddly- Didn't know Miont had done 1806 pruissians though - this could be one of them but the horse looks too good for Minot- I have some of his Waterloo Curassiers. However having said that its the best shout so far. I'm a bit of a fan of Minot on the quiet- he did some rubbish-Thane Tostig- but some of his stuff is excellent.

  3. Andy,

Minot definitely did 1806 Prussians, i'm sure i have some copies of Battle somewhere with reviews and listings. One of those sets (a skirmish scene including jaeger, casualties, and a fallen tree) appeared on ebay a while ago and i stupidly let it go.

Could it be a Minot figure on another manufacturers horse?

    1. It certainly could- the other thing that stopped me thinking Minot- at least initially was the fact that the Shabraque is a separate casting- unlike the Waterloo French Curassiers by minot which have saddle on the horse. but maybe the 1806 stuff was different. I wonder what happened to the moulds- I've seen his Zulu war range which I also liked.

  4. I don't have masters or moulds for any 30mm Rose Napoleonic cavalry, nor have I seen any mentioned in any of my Rose catalogues. All the Naploeonic figures are infantry.

    1. Rob thanks that rules that out then - looking more and more like a Minot.
